Job Description

Our client is looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult with special interest in Rehabilitation.

This role is in the public sector and salary on offer is between €231,215 to €277,736 depending on experience.





The Mental Health Service provides care to a population of approximately Apply people across a large geographical area, including rural communities. The service operates within the Integrated Health Area of Region F (HSE West and North West) and covers multiple counties.

The service provides mental health assessment and treatment for adults aged 18 and over, following an interdisciplinary approach. The Consultant Psychiatrist will be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality rehabilitation and recovery-focused care for individuals with severe and enduring mental illness.



Service Objectives & Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team providing rehabilitation and recovery services.
  • Develop and implement high-quality community-based rehabilitation programs.
  • Support individuals in high-support residential settings.
  • Conduct assessments and interventions for individuals with complex mental health needs.
  • Develop assertive outreach programs to enhance care packages.
  • Strengthen collaboration with carers, advocacy groups, and recovery-oriented services.
  • Work closely with the existing Consultant group, which includes specialists in General Adult Psychiatry, Psychiatry of Old Age, Liaison Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, and Mental Health Intellectual Disability services.
  • Provide clinical leadership, research, and development in line with statutory requirements.


Multidisciplinary Team Structure

The consultant will work with a team that includes:

  • Non-Consultant Hospital Doctor (NCHD)
  • Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)
  • Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS)
  • Healthcare Assistants (HCA)
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Social Worker
  • Administrative Staff
  • Clinical Nurse Managers (CNM)
  • Staff Nurses supporting rehabilitation residential units


Key Duties

  • Deliver comprehensive, community-based rehabilitation services.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Work collaboratively with General Adult Community Mental Health teams.
  • Participate in research, audits, and compliance with statutory bodies.
  • Provide consultation services as needed.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and contribute to service planning.
  • Participate in training and mentoring of junior medical staff and multidisciplinary team members.


Eligibility Criteria

Professional Qualifications:

  • Registration as a specialist in Psychiatry with the Medical Council of Ireland.
  • A minimum of one year's postgraduate training/experience in Rehabilitation Psychiatry.

Additional Requirements:

  • Access to transport for community visits.
  • Participation in an on-call rota.
  • Ability to respond to clinical and service needs promptly.

  • Maintain compliance with regulatory and quality assurance requirements.
